New Generator & Fuel Supply for F J Church

Customer Requirements

Ian at F J Church contacted us requiring a new generator and fuel supply to power a new wire stripping machine that had been installed. He wasn’t sure on sizes, best location or specs that he would need.

The first stage

Powertech Generators - FW Church Case Study 1.jpgOur director Peter sat down with Ian to discuss the power that his new wire stripping machine would require and from that worked out the correct size of machine for the job, to give optimum performance to his equipment whilst being efficient and cost-effective. Next was the issue of its running time and supplying the machine with the correct quantity of fuel and a realistic supply with practical refilling periods. The positioning of the generator and fuel tank were key to allow a practical install for the stripping machine and easy refuelling of the tank. Access was the main issue with the whole area enclosed with 16ft high walls with no vehicular access.

Providing the right equipment

Once we had our specs and site survey completed, we set about the planning to get the equipment in to overcome each hurdle and provide Ian with the complete power package he required.

We recommended a Perkins engine for its incredible reliability and efficiency and low maintenance requirements, in this case, Ian needed 500Kva unit.
Next with the machine needing to run 6 days a week continuously, the fuel supply had to be practical to cope with this and avoid constant refuelling. So based on the Perkins fuel efficient consumption figures we were able to supply an external 8-day fuel tank in the restricted space we had available. This allowed Ian to organize the refuelling for once a week, whilst still allowing 1 day a week for any fuel supply issues.

The Installation

With the site access issues as they were, we needed to come up with a plan to get everything in.
We contacted our trusted transport partners who brought in their largest lorry and crane. We set about getting both the fuel tank and the 4.5-ton generator lifted over the 16ft walls.
With expert guidance from our engineers and the crane operator, we had the generator set in place with the tank in the ideal position for both supplying the generator and refuelling the tank.

Once in place, our highly trained engineers set about installing the units. Using the top-spec equipment and parts, ensuring the install was both cost-effective and able to meet all the required safety standards and regulations.
Even allowing for the tank to be adjusted to allow a remote filling point to be fitted, so the refuelling could be done with ease avoiding the access issues of the site.

The result

Despite the hurdles of access and the restricted working areas, we were able to provide the ideal, dynamic power solution to Ian. Not only making its ongoing use cost-effective we also made it practical and versatile to keep the business working at its best.

Supplying the right equipment for the job is key
